Day 18 - Margaritaville

The time we spent in what my grew to believe was my own personal house (but obviously wasn't) was a great way to reenergize ourselves and start traveling again. Out next destination was Key West.

Only being about 30 minutes from the island of Key West we packed up our things late in the morning and drove off in another great day of beautiful weather. The island is only 4 square miles and when you drove from onto the island you notice an immediate change in commercialization. Any type of chain restaurant or fast food place is on the island. A clear sign that a TON of people come from all over to this small little island for a chance to ironically "get away" from all the hustle and bustle of real life. It was easily the most busy traffic-wise when driving.

So after we scoped out the scene and drove around the island we headed to the campground we booked a couple of days before. The campground was very well established and we even ended up tenting next to a couple form Michigan who
were tenting for a whole month down there. They had been going to this particular campground (Boyds) for over 20 years. As you can see above, we were literally on top of the water! Such a great spot!

So the tent finally was up and we headed back into town. After parking we went straight to the northwest corner of the island. That's the part where all the privately own restaurants and shoppes are. The streets were narrow and just filled with bar after bar featuring an amateur singing doing their take on a Jimmy Buffett classic. Andy, Emma, an I took turns choosing what bars to grab a beer in. It was really hard for me to convince myself that it wasn't summer.
I don't know if they have laws on this but I saw a good number of people just carrying their drinks down the streets. So what do I think about this? "When in Rome," I tell myself. How could I resist?!?!

We grabbed dinner and continued to walk around. I could se
e why that couple from Michigan have been going there for over 20 years. Maybe, even though I don't have a job (per se), I don't think it's too early to think about my retirement plan.
