Well we finally caved in and spent the money to get a hotel for the night. The morning we woke up at Ralph's we hit up Priceline and just went for it. I was told that we should see the hotel scene anyways.
We didn't actually stay in the city of Miami, but Miami Beach. I didn't know there was a different but Miami Beach is where South Beach and where a ton of hipster hotels are.
The drive to Miami Beach was awesome, as one might expect. Sunny, sunny, sunny! I'm tellin' ya, in great weather, 3 hour car rides go by so fast. As we arrived into the city the waters were blue, the sun was out, and the skyline looked absolutely amazing.
The hotel we stayed in seemed like it was meant to make babies in, or at least where you went to make a baby. It was clearly apart of the era when hotels were sprouting up all over the city and had the Miami hipster vibe to it. When we opened the door to our room I thought it was a joke. There was a theme of white leather headboards, white linen, and red lighting. Yes, red lighting. Our main source was a tall red tube with small circles cut out of it and the maximum amount of help it produces is the perfect setting for the bow-chicka-bow-wow mood. The small hotel information pamphlet even had recommendations on where to go to help you get a little action during your stay in the city. Didn't know Miami Beach had that going for them.
After we got settled in we walked along South Beach for a while. The sky turned dark with clouds and the wind kicked up a couple of knots resulting in some really cool kite surf watching.
A plus to this strange hotel was the fact that from 7-8 pm they had a FREE happy hour on all vodka, gin, and rum drinks. Needless to say that everyone comes at 7 and everyone peaces out at 8. Careful for your consumption during that hour because it's about 4 hours premature to be getting your drink on. The Miami night life doesn't really start until 11 or even later, and the bars close around 5 in the morning. And this is any given night, not just on the weekends. Muy loca, no?
We didn't go too hard for the nightlife. We really just wanted to see what Miami at night was like. Mission accomplished! But another travel day in the morning!
Florida Keys here we come!
