Santa Fe was a complete success! I was really thrilled about that city. This day was all about checking out what Albuquerque had to offer. Luckily for us, we had some locals who could show us around.
Emma has some family who lives right outside of Albuquerque. Danielle and Jodie live together and were more than happy to take us out for lunch to get to know about our trip and us. We met up with them and their friend Lynn to one of their favorite local New Mexican restaurants. Good, quality, local food and they were generous enough to pay the bill. Thanks ladies!
They told us about the Tram that rides up into the mountains so once we were done with lunch we all headed there. This tram is the longest tram in the western hemisphere and goes up a cable into the neighboring mountains almost two miles up! The ride us was really, really cool. When we would go over the tower structures that held the cables up, the tram would do a big swing. It was really scary. At the top it was super windy but the view was priceless; definitely the best way to see the whole city of Albuquerque. I was surprised to find that there was an entire skiing system on the other side of the mountain. On one side, the side we came up on, it was all rocks and very steep. On the other it was all snow. Seeing the skiers made me so jealous I almost rented boots and skis for the day. After a while of checking the view and watching people fall trying to get off the chair lift, we decided it was too cold and headed back on the next tram down.
We said our goodbyes to local tour guides we had and headed into town. By the time we were on flat ground and into town, the day turned overcast and it was mid afternoon. We parked the car and walked up and down the main street and realized there was NOTHING going on. Half the stores were closed or gated, and the overall feel of the city was just depressing. So needless to say I was not really impressed with what Albuquerque had to offer. Not wasting any more time we just went back to the hotel.
Thank God we went on that Tram ride!
