Day 45 - A family Affair

Two nights already went by sooo fast! It’s a good thing we made sure we booked for THREE nights!

The first one our to do list was the Hoover Dam. I had been there with my parents before, but Emma and Andy hadn’t and it is certainly a must-see when in the neighborhood. It has to be the best damn dam I have ever seen. Unfortunately the wind was so bad I didn’t get out of car too much…in fear of the wind taking me right over the edge!

The day was filled with the usual Las Vegas day. In the evening the three of us had plans. Andy had met Debbie in Chatham because she has a summer place there. She lives in LV and she wanted to meet up with us and learn all about our trip. We met her at the Stratosphere bar for drinks. The martinis were delicious, but pricey! Debbie was incredibly nice and after drinks she came up to the roof with us to look at the rides. Yes. There are rides on top of this hotel and casino. It resembles the space needle in Seattle, but not that high, but still pretty tall at the same time. So Emma being the daredevil she is, wanted to take on a ride. I decided I would go on one that spins over the edge of the building. After Emma and I went to the ride entrance, they said it was closed because the wind was a little fast. So there was only two other rides to choose from and when I look at the top of the building…the ride that just goes straight up and down, I somehow just had to urge to “get it over with” and we headed on up. Now this ride was even higher than the previous one were attempted to ride. We got up these just in time to watch the ride before us take off. The 15 seconds I saw it happen up close, was enough time for me to chicken out. I tend to think of myself as the tragic hero who was bequeathed his fathers stomach when it comes to rides. I was more than happy to watch Emma from the side. Do I have regrets…no absolutely not.

We went back to the hotel, but I did not get too comfortable. I happen to have a date at another casino. What website did I use in such short notice? It’s called SmithFamilyTree.com. It just so happens that I was meeting my cousin, Carrie, who had just landed in LV for a spring break vacation earlier that day. I walked over to the MGM, where she was staying, and we grabbed a drink and caught up and it was great to see another familiar face on my journey around the country.

Unfortunately the gambling that took place before this evening would now be considered “tame” to say the least. But oh well…when in Vegas!
